HOW ARE BROKERS PAID?

A frequent source of disputes is broker compensation. Brokers are virtually always paid on commission. In other words, they generally receive a percentage of the sale price. Since real properties usually sell for a large amount of money, the amount of money involved in a broker’s commission is often large. This leads to frequent disputes, following the invariable rule: whenever there is a great deal of money at stake, people tend to fight about it. This section sets forth the basic rules in this area.
